Offering Help (Material)

Offering help berarti memberikan sesuatu yang bersifat fisik atau abstrak kepada seseorang, yang dapat diartikan bahwa memberikan sebuah pertolongan. Penawaran dapat berupa makanan, uang, solusi, persahabatan atau tawar-menawar. Penawaran berarti memberi bantuan. Tawaran tersebut bisa kita terima atau kita tolak.

Saat mengajukan penawaran, dapat menggunakan ungkapan berikut:

May I ……..

Can I ……..

Shall I ……..

Would you ……….

How about I ………

Examples:

- May I give you a hand?

- Can I help you?

- Shall I bring you some tea?

- Would you like another piece of cake?

- How about I help you with this?

- Can I clean the car for you?

- Shall I help you with your homework?

- I will do the washing, if you like.

Making Offers	Accepting Offers	Refusing Offers
Can I help you?	Yes, please. I really appreciate it.	It’s okay, I can do it my self.
Shall I bring you some tea?	Thank you, It’s very kind of you.	No, thank you.
Would you like another helping of cake?	Yes, please, that would be lovely.	No, thanks. I don't want another helping.
How about I help you with this?	Yes, please, that will be useful.	Don’t worry, I will do it myself.

Menawarkan sesuatu dengan sopan (formal)

– Can I get you something? Can I get you anything?

- Would you like to drink something?

Jika Anda ingin orang lain mendapatkan apa yang dia butuhkan, dapat menggunakan

– That’s milk. Help yourself

– Help yourself to some milk

– Shall I help yourself to some milk? (Sambil menawarkan)

Anda sudah yakin apa yang orang lain mau (informal)

– Let me get you some milk

 

Jika belum terlalu yakin (informal)

– Do you want me to bring you a glass of milk?

– Should I get you some snack?

– I will get you a cup of coffee if you want

– Can I get you some drink?

At Engkus's house

Entin: Good afternoon kus. You look busy. Is there anything I can help?

Engkus: Could you help me doing the housework?

Entin: Certainly. What can I do for that? 

Engkus: Just mop the floor, and I will wipe the kitchen.

Entin: Is there anything else?.

Engkus: Oh yes. After finishing that job, Please open all the windows to make the fresh air.

Entin: Sure, I'll do my best.

Engkus: Thank you.

Entin: How about eat lunch at the Transmart after doing the job?

Engkus: That's a good idea. Lets finish this job quickly.
